Which dead industries can actually be reopened

Industries die for two different reasons and the difference decides everything. If demand disappeared, nothing brings it back. If the cost structure or the available technology made it uneconomic, then cheaper energy, robotics, new materials or automation can reopen it. Run that test before anything else, because it is faster than any market sizing.

The open question. Did this industry die because demand vanished or because the costs stopped working?

What would kill it

It is a lens rather than a company, and treating it as a company is how people end up reviving something nobody wants.
